Dr. Waters

Dr. Waters began her own practice with a passion for quality animal care. She introduced Heartland Large Animal Services to the farms and ranches in Polk and surrounding counties in 2013.  An eighth generation Floridian, Dr. Waters grew up in the cattle industry, having known at an early age her calling to care and provide medical Veterinarian services to large animals. Knowing well the dedication and hard work it takes to sustain agriculture and food animal best practices in today’s changing environment, her background lent itself to an expertise unsurpassed in her field.

Central Florida counties make up the highest number of food animals in Florida. Okeechobee is No. 1 with 141,000, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) report and Highlands No. 2 at 111,000. Osceola is No. 3 at 102,000, and Polk is No. 4 at 100,000 while Hardee County is No. 5 at 85,000.

The American Veterinary MedicalAssociation estimates there are a little over 90,000 animal doctors in the United States today, and about two thirds of them are practice exclusively on companion animals. “Veterinarians are the only professionals actively engaged in the food production industry,” noted Dr. Jack Hermann, a veterinarian on faculty at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.  "I feel honored and privileged to bring these services to my hometown" notes Dr. Waters of her new Central Florida based practice.

Dr. Waters began her education earning an Associate's degree in Zoology at one of the country's only Teaching Zoos, and a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, with an emphasis in beef cattle production, from the University of Florida. Having earned her Veterinarian degree from St. Matthew's University, her clinical year was spent at Oklahoma State University, one of the top large animal schools in the country.

Dr. Waters was featured here in Florida Hometown Magazine.

  1. Large animal veterinary equipment is the most important tool to examine large animals to obtain the paradigmatic levels of healthcare standards. These are made of German stainless steel which is a high-quality material, making instruments strong and sturdy.
